Protective Film China Company is a manufacturer of silver coated polyester film made from PET base film with a thin vacuum metallized layer. The film gives flexible rolls a clean silver surface, useful reflection, barrier support, and decorative value without heavy metal foil. It is used for composite packaging, reflective insulation, EMI shielding, and decorative lamination where coating, laminating, rewinding, and slitting must stay stable in production.
Product Overview
Silver coated polyester film is produced by depositing vaporized aluminum onto PET film inside a vacuum metallizing chamber. The deposited layer is thin, but it turns a plastic substrate into a reflective, barrier-supporting, metallic roll material. In sample checks, the metallized layer reference thickness is often around 6-40 nm, depending on OD value, silver tone, barrier target, and laminate structure.
This film is also known as silver metallized PET. PET gives roll strength, flatness, and dimensional stability, while the silver metallized surface improves light blocking, moisture resistance, oxygen barrier, and appearance. Brightness alone is not enough. The metal layer must stay attached after coating, adhesive curing, lamination, or narrow-width slitting.
During inspection, we check metal uniformity, pinhole marks, end-face flatness, winding hardness, and rub-off after tape-pull or trial lamination. These details decide whether the film runs well on coating or laminating machines.

Benefits
- Reflective performance: Reflects light and radiant heat in insulation facers, cooler bag materials, thermal sheets, and display composites.
- Barrier support: In flexible packaging, metallized polyester film helps reduce oxygen, water vapor, aroma loss, and light exposure.
- Decorative value: The metallic surface gives laminated paper, labels, gift materials, pouches, and display backing a clean silver finish.
- Converting stability: PET base film supports coating, lamination, printing, rewinding, and precision slitting when tension and treated side are controlled.
- Custom slitting: Jumbo rolls can be slit into narrow widths. Common tolerance is +/-0.5 mm to +/-1 mm.
- Process adjustment: Thickness, OD value, surface treatment, and silver tone can be adjusted for packaging, insulation, shielding, or decoration.
What Makes This Film Different From Ordinary Silver Plastic Film?
The key difference is the vacuum metallized layer. Ordinary silver-colored plastic may only provide color, while vacuum metallized PET film uses deposited aluminum to add real reflection and barrier support. In packaging, it improves light barrier and shelf presentation. In insulation, the silver face redirects radiant heat. In decorative lamination, it gives a stronger metallic look than dyed film. OD value, metal adhesion, pinhole level, and coating side matter more than brightness alone.

How Should This Film Be Checked Before Mass Production?
Before mass production, thickness and roll width are only the starting points. OD value, metal adhesion, pinhole control, treated side, roll hardness, end-face flatness, and slitting edge quality should also be checked. A 50-100 m trial roll can show coating wet-out, adhesive bonding, slitting dust, roll tracking, and metal transfer after curing.
For packaging, trial lamination should check bond strength, OTR, WVTR, and barrier direction. For insulation, the silver reflective face should stay clean after bonding. For shielding, surface continuity, overlap area, and grounding design need testing. Aluminized PET film can look similar outside, but real performance depends on metallizing quality and downstream processing.

FAQ
Is silver coated polyester film the same as aluminum foil?
No. It is PET film with a thin vacuum metallized aluminum layer, so it is lighter and easier to convert than solid foil.
Can this film be coated or laminated?
Yes. The treated side and adhesive system should be confirmed before production.
What data should be checked for packaging use?
OD, metal adhesion, OTR, WVTR, pinhole level, lamination bond, and roll winding quality.
Can the film be supplied in custom slit widths?
Yes. Edge quality, roll tension, and tolerance should match the final machine speed.
