Protective Film China Company is a metallised polyester film manufacturer supplying VMPET film for barrier laminates, reflective insulation and decorative composites. The range uses BOPET film with a vacuum-deposited aluminum layer on one side. Grades are matched by optical density, metal adhesion, surface treatment, thickness and winding direction for printing, lamination and rewinding.

Metallised polyester film is used when a laminate needs more than a metallic finish. The aluminum layer adds light shielding, reflectivity and barrier performance, while the BOPET substrate remains stable during converting. Compared with solid foil, the structure stays lighter and easier to process.

A standard silver metallized polyester film may suit packaging, labels and decorative conversion. Demanding structures need closer control of optical density, pinhole level, metal-layer uniformity and metal bond strength. A metalized aluminum polyester film should be reviewed in the finished laminate, especially where curing, flexing or rewinding may affect barrier consistency.

Decorative Composite Film

Gloss, flatness, batch appearance

Decorative laminates often prioritize gloss and flatness, while moisture-sensitive packaging needs tighter WVTR, OTR, aroma-retention and pinhole control. Trial high-barrier grades in the intended laminate.

Selection Guide

When selecting a metallised polyester film manufacturer, begin with the finished structure and converting route. Review optical density with WVTR, OTR, metal adhesion, pinhole criteria and laminate integrity. Typical market OD references include 2.2, 2.5 and 2.8, but set the production target for the structure. A darker surface is not automatically better.

For packaging, identify whether the structure uses PET / VMPET / PE, PET / VMPET / CPP or another laminate. For reflective insulation, check whether the metalized reflective polyester film will be laminated with foam, bubble material or another thermal substrate. For decorative conversion, print compatibility, curl control and slit-edge quality may matter more than the highest OD.

Gloss, edge bond, curl and flatness

Surface tension is useful, but it is not a complete adhesion guarantee. Surface treatments are not interchangeable. Common mistakes include selecting OD without reviewing metal bond strength, overlooking metal-in or metal-out direction and releasing a volume order before testing the adhesive and machine speed.

Benefits

  • Supports barrier, light-shielding and aroma-retention requirements.
  • Adds a silver reflective surface to insulation and decorative laminates.
  • Handles well during printing, slitting, lamination and rewinding.
  • Allows grade selection by OD, treatment side and end-use structure.
  • Supports jumbo-roll and slit-roll supply for converting work.
  • Helps maintain repeat-order consistency when approved samples are retained.

Which Reel-Side Details Should Be Confirmed Before Metallised Polyester Film Enters Printing or Lamination?

Before approval, establish whether the aluminum layer unwinds metal-in or metal-out, which side carries corona or adhesion treatment and whether the roll enters printing, dry lamination, extrusion lamination or rewinding. Match the core to the unwind shaft; 3 inch and 6 inch paper cores are common. Review roll OD, flatness, slit-edge quality and telescoping risk. For a new laminate, validate the roll with the actual ink, adhesive, line speed and curing route.

Customization Options

Protective Film China Company matches each VMPET film grade to the downstream process. Before volume conversion, set thickness, target OD, treatment side, barrier requirement, roll width, roll length, core size, roll OD and winding direction. Match the roll format to the unwind shaft and line speed.

For repeat orders, reference the retained approved sample, batch traceability, slit-width requirement and agreed inspection points. For critical barriers, compare the finished laminate after curing, flexing and rewinding instead of relying only on base-film data.

How Can Optical Density Be Matched to Barrier Targets Without Over-Specifying VMPET Film?

Select optical density for the finished structure, not only for a darker silver appearance. Decorative composites may not need the same grade as moisture-sensitive packaging. Check higher-barrier options against WVTR, OTR, metal adhesion, pinhole criteria and barrier consistency under agreed conditions. Compare samples after lamination and curing. This prevents over-specifying OD while overlooking a weak interface or unsuitable adhesive route.

FAQ

What information is needed before a VMPET film grade is recommended?

Identify the application, laminate structure, barrier target, thickness, roll width, core size, treatment side, adhesive route and winding direction. Use a trial roll for a new process.

Should WVTR and OTR be checked on the base film or the finished laminate?

Base-film data supports initial screening. For barrier-sensitive uses, retest the laminate after curing, slitting and flexing.

Can the metallized side be printed or laminated directly?

Do not assume every metallized surface accepts the same ink or adhesive. Verify the treated side, surface-tension requirement and process compatibility.

How should repeat-order roll specifications be controlled?

Reference the retained approved sample and review width, length, core size, roll OD, winding direction, flatness, slit-edge quality, telescoping observation, batch traceability and inspection method.
